• 11/22/2010 Transplant plus 4 yrs plus 77 days!
We are home from what is Bonnie's third trip to Boston docz since Aug 31 (Transplant anniversary). This week we are celebrating our 22 anniversary. Both of us are busy on the book and with grandparenting. Bonnie's left eye continues to heal the "defects" that probably resulted in an attack of graft-vs-host disease this summer. Her Boston surgeon put a piece a placenta on the cornea and stitched it shut the first week of Sept and again in October. Most of the October stitches have come off, but Bonnie is keeping it well gooped and taped shut in an effort to give it a couple of other weeks of rest to secure the healing. Daniel is the sick one these days with terrible hip pain and now a very bad case of the crud. And still we are happy and doing well. We had a wonderful time with the kiddos at Halloween. Bonnie made Halloween coloring books from their own past Halloween pictures (at They all came to hear Bonnie preach on the 21st; they are getting more and more accustomed to being in church and liking it more. We will be celebrating Thanksgiving at Jen's house with them and the other four grandparents. We loved seeing grandson Jackson and his mom, Dr. Deb in Boston. Jackson is quite the kindergartener and athlete these days. He's quite into playing chess. The book writing is squeezed in between doc and kiddo visits and church activities. We enjoy beautiful sunsets over the ocean every night.

Hm...eggnog lattes...I'm GLAD we are not near YOUR house. We both LOVE eggnog but are definately doing a "pass" this season. Stay away from eggnog is our motto!!! Enjoy them for us.

I'm eager to here your deliberations on "future ventalator use". I am very down on the use of them (and realize if you'd used me you'd not be alive now) I AM VERY GLAD YOU ARE ALIVE. But you are lucky, not just to be alive but not be have been alive and having no legs or worse to have been brain damaged. Ventalors do not have pretty outcomes in a high high percentage of time. I know for me, I want NO Ventalator---it's a conservative view of what you are willing to risk for what gain. Keep writing as this unfolds for you---for both of you!! Oh, and the remodel sounds great. (make sure the sand is dumped to keep house from washing away FIRST however)

Dear Bonnie and Daniel,
I have no GOOD excuse for not calling you back other than that in the past 7 weeks, I have traveled cross country 5 times. I am finally home again and have spent the last week nesting again. I hope you will forgive me. I loved hearing the brief message from Daniel.
Leaving my work life aside, we are doing great as are both kids although Ian is now divorced and starting to feel alive again, I must say. He's working with the World Bank and you may have seen his entries on Facebook (ReUse Connection). That keeps both him and Major more than busy as Maj is developing his new social media website. It is the never ending development though and I hope it goes live early next year or that Ian gets funding so that Major can get off that work. But, then there's his "real work." It seems his company just keeps pulling in the contracts and for now he has project work until next July. So, that means I won't retire until at least late next year as I just don't see not working if he's still busting his fanny all the time. But I am promising myself a leave of absence of 3-4 weeks next spring. After all, I am 66! And, sometimes this travel stuff gets me tired.
Jess, Steve and their two kids are doing well and we spend as much time as possible together. Here's some pictures: check out the first two sets: Arden is turning out to be beautiful and she is so articulate at 10 that's she's scary. Fortunately this is tempered by a great sense of silliness. Her email, for example, starts with bubblehead!
We too celebrated an anniversary -- 24 this past October. We've decided to do a bit of recalibrating though as with our intense work, we don't have enough time for each other. So, we're working on that. Weekends are a start. But truly, we are doing really well. Both of us are mostly healthy although Major suffers from scoliosis and has just gone through an extensive battery of xrays, MRIs, injections, and a final prognosis that nothing can be done for him. So, the advice -- keep on doing what you are doing. He has given up his volleyball though and turned to golf. I seem to have the same kind of back issues, but I think if I could just stay home long enough to get back to regular pilates, etc. that I'd do much better. So, all in all, we are doing great.
BTW: I loved your advent letter and sent it on to the kids.
Much, much love and wishes for comfort, love, serenity, and that you continue to be able to do all you love.

Hi Bonnie, belated 22nd wedding anniversary to you and your husband! It seemed you totally enjoy that very important day of a married life, that you were able to watch a medical related show which discussed chances of a successful transplant and survival from leukemia. That show, for sure, is one of the acclaimed shows in the US. With HP7, I'm already done reading the seven series, but I did not even watch one of its installments. The adventure is totally amazing, if it comes to its book series. I don't think, I'll be interested in watching it in film. I didn't figure that out yet. I've heard from my friends that HP movies are really crap. It’s full of edited book series’ important scenes that should be on the movie. But I hope this one would meet our expectations. I’m looking forward to hearing more interesting stories from you.

Just "stopping by". Gearing up for Christmas. Bonnie, check out the 1969 oil painting I posted on my FB page. Just found it "on-line"....ah the miracle of the web! This was the first modeling I ever did. Very strange to look at it. Betsy
