We had two good visits with our grandson Jackson. We never get enough of that kiddo. He is in an early kindergarten in Cambridge and is thriving there. He is tall and smart. He and his Grandpa Daniel had some serious play time with the Hess race car we got him for an early birthday present.
We had our usual grand time with Beanie and Rowan; Daniel and Rowan had their romps in the yard. Rowan is still not great at returning balls Daniel throws her. We came through State College and saw Margaret and Tom Benson. Daniel loved hearing stories about Bonnie long before he met me. From Chicago, we took a side trip to see Margaret and Paul in Madison (great fun); ten days later they had 19” of snow. Ah, Wisconsin.
Daniel’s mom Margery is doing well and enjoying her life in the Classic Hyatt where she lives. We all spent Thanksgiving with a friend of Bev’s and her family; sixteen adults for dinner. Our niece and nephew cooked an anniversary dinner for us the next night (Bev/Alan’s 31st; our 21st). After dinner Bev and Daniel started to recite childrens poems of A.A. Milne (before he published Winnie the Pooh).Bev then got out the actual books Mom read to them when they were young, and all the Shurmans along with Mom's good friend, General Paul,
started to read. I have a little video of Mom reading, but it looks like my blog software wants me to post it to a url like UTube first. Hmmm, I guess I'd better research this a bit more and get permissions before such a public posting. We did have great fun with those old poems.
Daniel drove straight home from Chicago; I slept almost the whole 20 hours of the trip. I was getting a cold. We were grateful for safe travels all those ways. The day after we got home we were in an accident. No one was hurt, though the cars were badly damaged. The air bag hit me especially hard; I’m still sore. I sat, somewhat stunned, in the car until the emergency crew arrived. I didn’t know that I should evacuate because the powder and gas in the air bag are not good for you. I continue to be amazed at how much we don’t know about how to take care of ourselves. Have you ever heard to get out of a car as soon as possible if a bag deploys? I was cold and didn’t even roll down the window, though the gas and powder from the bag were unpleasant. Daniel was fine and got out immediately to see about the other driver. I continue to have pains; a jolt to the chest is especially painful when you have a cold and need to cough all the time.
In the third week of Advent we are enjoying this season of hope. As you may recall, this is the week of birthdays for all three of our children (Ron and Jen today [Dec 16]; Debrah Friday) and also our grandson Jackson (on his Mom’s birthday). Babies (even when they reach 40) make this season special for us.
The pains that are slowing me down are also giving me time and space to contemplate the joy of the season. I love being reminded of JOY even by some quite tacky decorations seen around here. It is a funny feeling to be so sore and yet so joyful. When I get a little glum, Daniel reminds me that though I’m not as well as I was last month, I’m a lot better than last year.
We hope you are having a joyful season of anticipation and hope.
Love to you all, Bonnie for BanD
