Tropical storm Hanna made landfall about 20 miles down the coastline from our beach house. I don’t think that it ever regained hurricane status. Because we are so close to the ocean, we decided to evaluate across the Cape Fear River at Jen’s. She lives on a marsh off the Intercoastal and they would evacuate in any major storm. This little storm gave us a good excuse and opportunity to spend some fine family time with the. We had a ball with the kids We lost power at that house for a couple of hours in the early morning, but everything was on by the time we all got up at 8.
Almost any big storm will put some water under our house. Here is a picture showing the underside of the house before we left. We actually found less water there upon our return this afternoon.
The winds are still strong now, though the waves are not particularly high. You can see we had our usual minor damage to the screens.
We are fortunate to be spared one more time. Living on a non-rebuildable lot reminds us of the gift of life we receive and could celebrate every day.
