We expected some resolution on the donor front last week. We don't have good news. No full match yet with a live donor, and only one acceptable cord has been found (an adult needs two for a transplant). We do have that one donor who is a "one allele level mistatch." We continue to have no resolution. And we are taking advantage of all this good time.
For those of you who want to read about what this means, here is one of the more easily read analyses from Blood Magazine: Download allele_level_mismatch_article_2004.doc
[One of our friends John Sacks is Director of Highwire Press, which makes most articles from the archives of Blood Magazine available online without charge. Having access to these articles is great for us, though we stuggle to understand what is said. Given the technology of hematology, the articles are mostly well written. See Highwire at: http://highwire.stanford.edu/ Thank you, John for the great job in moving this kind of material online.
Daniel and I continue to hang in here in North Carolina having fun when we are not trying to figure out medical implications. We have been able to go to two of Zachary's soccer games so far. Saturday Zac showed off his skill with chop sticks as well as soccer balls.
