It may seem strange to think of gratitude as a skill and a domain for developing expertise. After all, isn’t gratitude a feeling, one that a person has or doesn’t? We say no. Gratitude is a skill. It is the skill of living in a world beyond ones self, living beyond what we call our little feelings. It is living as a citizen of the cosmos and seeing the universe in the smallest acts and objects and certainly seeing the world in every person we meet. At the same time experts in gratitude are living in the larger world, they are also creating that larger world. We could call gratitude a sense of spirituality. We call it, the expert is drawing strength from connection to the cosmos.
